Welcoming a New Singer

Walking Corpse Syndrome is pleased to announce our new vocalist. Please welcome Leif Winterrowd to the Corpse Walker Family. Leif is a Montana native who formerly sang with the Missoula-based band, Mageddon. He passed a rigorous audition process, suffering gallantly through many strange and mystical initiations to be found compatible and pure of spirit and body.

We know that there is going to be an adjustment period. We had previously announced the band is going through a metamorphosis period. We know we'll lose some fans with our changes and to those fans we say, "Thank you for all the great moments."

But we believe the best is yet to come. We're writing new music. We're only going to keep about half of the old songs, but with different titles and lyrics.

We understand some people will be upset that we're keeping the name Walking Corpse Syndrome even with all of these changes. Walking Corpse Syndrome started out as an idea before it was ever a band. Walking Corpse Syndrome is a fight against stagnation, pushing yourself past your limits, shedding your tired old skin to be reborn as something new and wonderful.

We hope that you'll choose to continue with us on this journey.

The State of Auditions

So far, the audition process has been amazing. We've gotten a bunch of excellent singers in to jam with us. Enough qualified people that we're beginning to think we might have a singer for our upcoming shows in April.

If you still want to audition, though, it's not too late. Email us at contact@walkingcorpsesyndrome.com to arrange an audition process. So far, our favorites have been people who have come in knowing our material, without even knowing whether or not they'll be in the band. One guy not only brought in Awakening and Madness, but went to our Reverbnation page and learned several others. We like confidence and prepardness in a front person!

Vocalist Audition Process

Walking Corpse Syndrome is committed to finding the best vocalist possible. As such, we figure that it won't be a short or easy process. What does that mean for our fans? We have shows booked until May. Hopefully, you'll still come out to support us, but you may have to see some instrumental sets. But you might also see one or a few different vocalists on a given night. We apologize in advance for the level of sucktitude this might cause.

To our aspiring vocalists: we're putting out an invitation to anybody and everybody to come sing for us. We're not saying we want a singer, a screamer, or both. Walking Corpse Syndrome is moving in a new direction. We still love the dark metal sound that we've cultivated, but we're exploring the boundaries of where this sound can go. The songs are becoming more sophisticated. The sonic textures are growing more nuanced. And the heavier parts are becoming heavier. We're no longer in love with the gothic look we've been rocking these last five years, so please don't think you shouldn't audition just because you don't wear all black.

We're not exactly sure what sound we're looking for, so we want to hear from everyone, male or female, young or old, and not necessarily even metal singers. We only ask that you be at least 18 years old since some of our venues have age restrictions.

Here are the basic steps for the audition process:

1. Learn one of our old songs. We'd prefer either "Awakening" or "Madness". Those videos include the lyrics in the notes section. We'd like to hear your interpretation of the song based on the existing lyrics.

2. Write lyrics to one of our new songs. We'll share with you some very rough tracks of two songs that we've currently written. These two songs offer a good contrast of the different sounds we like to explore. We'd like to hear what you can do with these two songs.

3. We don't expect the first audition to be a home run. But if it seems like we might share the same goals, and you seem to be on the right track, we'll arrange for a follow up audition. At that point, we'd be looking at improvement and consistency.

4. If you're still down at this point, email walkingcorpsesyndrome@gmail.com so we can share the new tracks and arrange an audition time.

Welcome to the Fold

We'd like to introduce you to the newest member of the Walking Corpse Syndrome family: Ryan Kevlar. If you've seen Walking Corpse Syndrome play live since July, you'll have seen Ryan rocking the keys and picking up a second guitar. But he's been a part of the family a lot longer than that.

The band first met Ryan back in July 2009 on Missoula, Billings, Casper mini-tour. A few months later, when we lost a merch person a day before playing a show in Grand Ronde Oregon, we gave Ryan a desperate call. He packed his bags (and a gorilla mask), hopped in the van, and rode 1300 miles in 3 days with us. Since then he's helped roadie, run sound, and sell more merch for us.

When Meredeath left the band, Ryan was the first one to jump up and take on a new instrument. When Matthew Bile left on tour, Ryan played guitar with us to keep our chops fresh. He's already helped write half of our new songs, helping take them in a bold, new direction. He now seamlessly switches between keys and guitar. We know that you'll dig Ryan as much as we do. So, take a moment, leave a comment, and welcome him into the fold.

Walking Corpse Syndrome Breaks Up?

What's Going On?

There's been some crazy rumors floating around about Walking Corpse Syndrome. The biggest one is that the dark metal band is breaking up. Not true!

Here's what's happening: Matthew Bile has been asked to play for Hemlock. He accepted based on a few things. It's been his life long dream to be a touring musician, and Hemlock gives him that opportunity.

And even though Walking Corpse Syndrome continues to grow in popularity and receive rave reviews online, times have been tough in the inland Northwest. With the economy in the tank, people aren't buying music or merch or even going out to shows like they once did. The economy even hit the band, with a few members losing jobs or having to take pay cuts. Without the day jobs to supplement gas and studio time, the band was focusing on more local projects for the coming year. The band will still be playing area shows throughout the year and working on new songs and a music videos.

The second piece of news is that Meredeath LaChryma will be moving for her job in October. It was a tough decision for her and playing in Walking Corpse Syndrome will stand out as one of the funnest times in her life. We wish her luck in her future endeavors!

We might do some shuffling within the band, so if you (or someone you know) plays an instrument and would like to audition, contact us!

Missoula Show

Walking Corpse Syndrome is playing a show in Missoula. Here's the details:

Dark Horse (old Buck's Club), 1805 Regent, Missoula MT 59801
Saturday Feb. 19th, 2011, Doors at 9pm.
Bands include: Mageddon, Walking Corpse Syndrome, and Pound
Ages 21 and up.
Cost: Free
